Question by GεεK: How can I protect my online photos on my website?
I know it is impossible to completely protect photos online, but what is the best way to protect them from being stolen? I’m not too happy to put watermarks on them. I still want my site and photos to be enjoyable. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Thanks, I already know about the print screen. =)
Thanks for the script.
For anyone else, my site is html.

every computer has a PrintScrn key, so anyone can steal anything they see on their computers. Other than watermarks, the only thing you can do is control who accesses your site.
What do you think? Answer below!

Edit: this java script will work in html…It is not total security for images but it serves as a warning and keep honest people honest…
Here is a little line of code that you can put in the head section of a page that makes it harder to scrape it will pop up a warning on right mouse clicks (got it from a photographer I know):
Since you can’t prevent anyone from actually downloading them, I think the best you can do is to embed your information in the digital file, adding meta-data to your digital images that will always live with the file. This way it’s possible for people to see that they were created by you by opening the “file info” or “properties” folder that’s hidden within your files.
That’s a simple way of saying it, but all major photo archives do this in addition to the watermark. Search adding metadata to image files online. In photoshop, it’s very easy to add any kind of information you want within the metadata, by going to the file menu>file info. You can assert copyright info here if that’s important to you, as well as your url, address, date of creation, etc. PSD & Bridge have terrific meta-data capabilities, as does Aperture, and all those image data-management programs.
Hope this helps.
i use a webhosting site called bigblackbag.com for my photo business. it allows you to add a download protection on anything you post up on the site which won’t allow users to right click on it to save the image. also, you can put your name watermark on the images additionally, so if anyone does a “print screen” your name will be on it. you can choose either to have your name small on the image (like i have on mine) or you can choose a giant copyright symbol.
see how my site works, you may want to consider bigblackbag.com for web hosting if you like it: http://www.amkarphoto.com
